We do not sell any of your personal information, and we never will.
Our Commitment to Transparency
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), you have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We want to be completely transparent:
- We do not "sell" your personal information as defined under CCPA
- We do not "share" your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under CPRA
We use your information to operate Facebark and to power features like our AI assistant. We do not sell it, and we do not show advertisements at all.
What does "sell" mean under California law?
Under CCPA/CPRA, "selling" means sharing personal information with third parties in exchange for money or other valuable consideration. We do not do this. We serve no advertising of any kind, so we do not use your data for ad targeting either. Your data stays with us—we don't hand it over to advertisers or data brokers.
How We Use Your Data
We use your personal information to:
- Operate and improve the Facebark app
- Enable you to create pet profiles and connect with other pet owners
- Send you notifications about follows, likes, and messages
- Provide customer support
- Ensure the security of our platform
- Power AI features like Dr. Whiskers, our pet health assistant. Your questions are processed to provide helpful responses but are not used to train AI models. Your Dr. Whiskers conversation history is kept on your own device rather than in your account—on the web you can clear it from the Dr. Whiskers chat screen, and on iOS and Android uninstalling the app removes it.
Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with service providers who help us operate Facebark. These are not sales—these providers process data on our behalf:
- Google Cloud Platform: Hosts our servers and stores your content (posts, videos, messages)
- Firebase (Google): Delivers push notifications to your device
- Google Gemini: Powers Dr. Whiskers AI to answer your pet health questions
- Sentry: Monitors our servers and the Facebark web app for errors to help us fix bugs (our iOS and Android apps do not use Sentry)
- Upstash: Enables real-time messaging features
- SendGrid: Delivers transactional emails (password resets, account notifications)
These providers:
- Process data only on our behalf and per our instructions
- Are contractually obligated to protect your data
- Cannot sell or use your data for their own marketing purposes
Advertising on Facebark
Facebark does not show advertisements. There is no advertising in our apps or on our website: we run no advertising SDK, no ad server, and no advertising or measurement pixels. Because we serve no ads, we do no ad targeting, we build no advertising profiles or audience segments from your activity, and we share nothing with advertisers or ad networks.
If we introduce advertising in the future, we will update this page and our Privacy Policy to describe exactly how it works before it takes effect.
Your Rights
Even though we don't sell your data, you still have rights under CCPA/CPRA:
- Right to Know: Request what personal information we collect
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate information
- Right to Portability: Request a copy of your data
